Bob Smith |
Ron Redmon |
Bob has supported every event the Stop the Litter! team has sponsored in the past year including two parades in Boone in which his business sponsored a separate Stop the Litter! float; he carried the STL! message to his church and its young people; he was instrumental in the research and purchase of a first class display board for the group; has been a stalwart in the clean-up of the MountainKeepers' three adopted streets; and recently used his relationships, reputation, and hard work to mount a publicity campaign for Boone Clean-Up Day on the marquees of eight local businesses (with more planned for next spring). Bob is an example of forward thinking, practicality, dedication, and perseverance and fully deserves this recognition. |

I would absolutely love to nominate Clear Creek Development for their outstanding work in helping to reduce the amount of litter in Watauga County.
For the past two years I have volunteered for Clean Up Watauga, an annual litter collection day that they started and sponsor. The best thing about Clear Creek Development's clean up day is that it involves the whole county! Last year there were students from Caldwell Community College, ASU, Watauga High School, and even Les McRae College! Not only did students volunteer, but also families and boy scouts came out. Also the day long event included clean up of areas all over Watauga county that are known "trouble spots" for litter. For volunteering we received a free t-shirt and lunch.
I believe that Clear Creek Development should be commended for their continued efforts to improve our quality of life in Watauga County!

Wendy Patoprsty |
Ron Redmon |
I nominate Wendy Patoprsty, a watershed education agent with the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service in Boone, as a Litter Hero for 2005.
Wendy's work coordinating river and stream clean-ups for the statewide annual Big Sweep on September 17 enabled the 94 local volunteers to work effectively and efficiently. Their efforts resulted in 1,500-1,800 pounds of trash and debris being removed from about 10 miles of waterways in Watauga County!
Thank you, Wendy!! |

Casey Pond |
Nancee Pond |
I would like to nominate my husband, Casey Pond, for Litter Hero. He is truly a Litter Hero in the High Country. About one year ago Casey started a business called the Restore. It is a nonprofit that supports Habitat for Humanity. One of the best things about his business is that it has kept over 52,000 lbs of material out of the landfill. He goes with a team of volunteers to the dump and collects useable building materials and other usable items that have found their way to the trash. He is a great role model, not just for our children, but also for our community. He has worked so hard to encourage others to take part in keeping our mountains clean. He is our LITTER HERO! |

Kate Dillon |
I would like to nominate Karl (Casey) Pond for the Stop the Litter award. He is currently the operations manager for the Habitat ReStore of Boone. Under his leadership, thousands of pounds of building materials have been recycled into the community rather than being thrown away. He has developed partnerships with several organizations and groups including ASU and Watauga County. With the county, this has resulted in an agreement that allows ReStore volunteers to go to the landfill and literally pull usable items out and resell them. I can’t think of anyone more deserving of the Stop the Litter award than Casey Pond. |

Stacie Horrell |
I would like to nominate Casey Pond and the Habitat ReStore for the Litter Hero reward. As manager of the Habitat ReStore, Casey has worked to keep usable building materials from going into the waste stream. Through his efforts, the Habitat ReStore has been able to keep a substantial amount of materials from being thrown into the landfill and these materials have been recycled back into use. |

Ethan Anderson |
I would like to nominate Casey Pond with Habitat for Humanity and the Restore. He has been the developer of the Restore, which in turn, is the greatest litter buster in town. He is responsible for keeping so many tons of trash and litter from the landfill. I have been to the Restore many times to purchase and support Habitat for Humanity. I have bought windows, sinks, toilets even an old Hot Tub. He has taken the concept all the way to the landfill where he has been granted access to salvage any valuables. He keeps many great items form becoming worthless trash. Please consider him for this award for I can think of no one else who deserves this more, |

"Five a Day" program. While I don't know how this turned out, I think it was a great idea and I know Jenny did a lot of work on it. So that's my two cents worth. |
